Deleted gap filling for Google Calendar meetings

Assembled allows customer to import meetings for the team directly from Google Calendar, but what happens when a meeting from Google Calendar is deleted/altered?

In cases where meetings are deleted and altered Assembled will automatically fill in the remaining gap with the adjacent events.

Here is how it works

Specifically, it will only fill gaps when there are productive events adjacent to the gap. This is because the algorithm that determines what the gap is filled with is determined by what adjacent events were originally shortened to make room for the Google Calendar event, and it fills in the gap with only those events. To avoid any incidental confusion with breaks, lunches, or other meetings that are at a set time or for a very specific length, the algorithm only will fill in gaps left from productive events.

Example 1

1. Create two adjacent events

2. Create a GCal event that overlaps both of them

3. Delete the GCal event via Google Calendar (or move it away)

Two new gap-filling events are created, to create the same effect as the original events that used to occupy that time.

Example 2

1. Create two adjacent events

2. Create a GCal event that overlaps both of them

3. Move one of the (now squished) events away from the others

4. Delete the GCal event via Google Calendar (or move it away)

A gap-filling Chat event is created for 10:30AM - 11:00AM, since the original Chat event is still adjacent to the gap. Since the Email event was moved away from the original gap, no gap-filling event is created for the Email event.

Example 3

1. Create an event

2. Create a GCal event that is fully contained inside it

3. Delete the GCal event via Google Calendar (or move it away)

A single gap-filling event is created, to create the same effect as the event that used to occupy that time.

When will gaps not be filled

This new feature does not fill in the gap for every scenario. Specifically, it will only fill gaps when there are productive events adjacent to the gap.
